Helen Claire Weekly

Helen Claire was two weeks old on Thursday- wow!  If this is how every week is going to be, then she'll be 30 before I know it.

This week, she started making a little motorboat sound while she sleeps.  It isn't really as loud as a snore, but it is loud enough that we noticed it.  Jonathan was rocking her and mother was still here the first time we heard it.  She sounds like a little boat, and it is so cute.  She doesn't make the noise every time she sleeps, but we have heard it a few times here and there.

We went on our first stroller ride on Sunday afternoon.  Mother and I walked around the neighborhood for a little while, but it was so hot, so we didn't stay out very long.  Helen Claire loved it!  She went right to sleep.

Aunt Laurie came back for a quick overnight visit on Sunday.  She had a sale in Huntsville, so she stopped in to spend the night and see us on her way.

On Monday, we had our newborn photo shoot.  It had to be rescheduled from Friday.  Mother stayed to help us with that, and I think we got some really good shots.  We used the front porch at Mrs. Estes house, and we were outside for nearly three hours.  Helen Claire was naked, so she didn't mind, but we were so, so hot.  Hopefully, we will have the proofs soon and it will all payoff.  After the pictures were done, Mother left for work, and we were on our own for the week.  It was scary at first, but we made it.  I definitely missed having my mom here, though, just for the company during the day and the reassurance.

Wednesday was Jonathan's birthday, so we helped him celebrate with a quiet night in at home. We had pizza and watched movies and read a couple of stories.   It was a different kind of birthday celebration, but it was perfect.

She had another doctor's appointment on Thursday, and Jonathan got to go with us.  Since her last appointment, she had gained 1 pound and 1 ounce, so her weight now is 8 pounds, 1 oz.  We were so proud of her!  She had to get her heel stuck, and I think Jonathan was just as upset as she was.  He did not like it at all!  The next visit is the really bad visit with all of her shots, so I'm sure that one will be even worse.

We have tried to start somewhat of a schedule over the past couple of days, and so far, she is doing great.  We have started a little nighttime routine that is my favorite part of the day.  We give her a bath and put on her sleeper, then let her eat.  Then, we try to keep her awake for about 15 minutes.  We read a couple of stories and then swaddle and put her to bed.  Last night, she slept for five hours in between feedings, which felt like a full night's sleep to me.  She is napping on her own in her cradle now (we are out of the bouncy seat), and she can get herself to sleep most of the time, without having to eat or rock.  So grown up already!  The funny thing is, even though we swaddle her, she has to sleep with her arms out, usually above her head.  She will work and work until she gets her arms free, and then she is out like a light.  When I go in to get her from a nap, I usually find her with her little arms stretched out over her head- so funny!

Mother came back to town last night, so she was here for HC's two week birthday.  She is leaving officially tomorrow morning for home, so we will really be on our own.

We are loving our little girl so much, and she is growing so fast.  We'll be back with an update next week.
