We read a little book called "No More Diapers for Ducky," and at first, she was adamant that Dada get her a "bink" (pink) potty. Not now. She's over that. Now, if you read the book or ask her about the potty or even go to the bathroom yourself, you better get ready. You are going to hear "mine. Papa. lella." on repeat until you confirm that yes, Papa will get Helen Claire a yellow potty.
Helen Claire and I made a fast trip back to Pansey and managed to avoid both sets of tornadoes. We got off work early, so I packed in literally 5 minutes while Helen Claire napped in the car. I turned my cell phone on speaker and called Jonathan's office so he could listen in on her and call me on the house phone if she cried. It was redneck make it work invention at its finest, but it got the job done.
We headed out and missed the Birmingham storms and got to Granny and Pa's house about ten minutes before the weather reports said that a tornado was down at Harmon school (about a minute from their house). We all huddled in the bathroom for about thirty minutes, and then everything was fine. It turned really cold and there was a ton of rain, but other than that, there was no real damage.
Saturday, we made the big trip to get the potty. We were a sight in Babies-R-Us...
We looked over all the potties, and Helen Claire had a lot of help making her decision.
She sat on a few to test them out, and she talked about maybe wanting a "geen" instead of "lella."
Papa found this little yellow potty with a handle, but we decided it might not be the best option, since it had to fold up.
She tried a froggy potty, but decided it was not right either. It told stories, which we all thought was a little weird, and we worried about what would happen if pee-pee got in the speakers. Not so easy to clean.
Then, the nice lady at the store noticed a pink princess potty. Granny and Papa liked it because it had a lid and roll to put your tissue. It also has a place for wipes, turns into a step stool and a potty seat to put on the big potty later on. The biggest selling point for Helen Claire... it came with reward stickers!!! The lady called it the "Cadillac" of potty chairs. We were sold.
We sat the potty up at Granny and Pa's, and Helen Claire played with it and got used to it all weekend. She was never scared of it, and she is really good at pushing the tissue roll in and out and opening and closing the lid. Granny read to her while she sat on her potty, and now she always wants a book if she is "going potty."
She hasn't actually used it yet, but she is getting used to the whole process, so hopefully, we'll have an update soon.
Thanks Granny, Papa and Mimi for going on our potty chair adventure with us!
