I realized I never took Helen Claire's picture in her official Thanksgiving dress, but it was so so hot, and she wanted that dress off! She kept saying, "off, off, mama, off off" over and over and over again like a little broken record. So, she wore play clothes most of the time, but there was a whole lot of playing outside and running going on, so that was just fine.
Jonathan and I had to work on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so we let Helen Claire go for her very first overnight visit (by herself!!!) to stay with all of her grandparents. It was fun for them and for her and for all of her cousins, but we were a little lost. Our house was way too quiet, and we missed our baby.
We got to my mother's house late on Wednesday night, but I put Helen Claire in the bed with us early Thursday morning when she first woke up. She didn't realize we were there and she looked at one of our pictures in my old room and said, "Mama, Dada." Then we told her hey and she looked at us like, you are really here and patted our faces saying Mama and Dada over and over again. It was the best!
It has been a little hard having granparent detox this past week, but Helen Claire is starting to act more like her old self. It must feel confusing to have so many grown-ups at your whim, then have your parents back with rules and consequences, so we have tried to be gentle and understanding and show Helen Claire grace this week. That's what grandparents are for, anyway, right, and we are just happy she had a good visit and got to spend one-on-one time with them.

Mimi let her paint with her very own brush... her favorite thing to do. She was just a little spoiled!

She got to love on Maeko, Josh's dog. She LOVES that dog, and Papa and Granny taught her how to give him water and feed him. Everyone had to take her outside (and they did, whenever she wanted to) so she could check on him, feed him, and give him water. To be his size, he is so gentle with her- much better than Jordan! He takes the little piece of food so carefully. (And just in case you are wondering, they are never together without an adult. We do know how big he is and what he could do if he wanted to).
This is also Josh's cozy coupe. Helen Claire learned how to get in and out all by herself, and she loved driving it. Thanks, Unk and Aunt Laurie for letting her borrow your wheels!
This year, we made a "Blessing Bowl" to help us remember all the things we are thankful for. We tried to write these out each night at supper during November. Here are our blessings. See if you can guess who named which blessing :)
We are very blessed, indeed. This is from a little song Helen Claire learned during music at school, but we have been singing it all month, and I think the words are so true for all of us, at any age.
"Thank Him, thank Him, all the little children,
God is Love. God is Love.
Thank Him, thank Him, all the little children,
God is Love. God is Love. "
We are very thankful for all our blessings this year, but most of all for the blessing of being God's children and having a Father that loves us no matter what.
Happy Thanksgiving!
